The pope will be visiting the Asian nation between 20-23 November.

Sister Sukanya told Efe that she was delighted, happy and proud to serve the pontiff.

She is one of the seven nuns and 10 other volunteer designers who have spent around two months preparing the robes for Pope Francis.

The team is also making another 200 robes and stoles for the bishops who will be participating in the pope's visit.

Pope Francis will receive two sets of robes, one in gold for the Holy Mass at the National Stadium on 21 November - where some 50,000 people are expected to gather - and another in red to be worn at Assumption Cathedral on 22 November.

The design, created by Cardinal Kriengsak Kovitvanit, features golden thread work and a traditional Kanok pattern.

After concluding their work, the sisters will send the finished pieces for dry cleaning so the robes will be in pristine condition for the papal visit.

Pope Francis is set to meet Thailand's king, prime minister and the head of the Sangha, a Buddhist monk order, before heading to Japan on Saturday to continue his tour.
