Around 1,500 teachers in Taguig City participated in an event that raised awareness on breast cancer, just in time with the celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Dra. Ma. Evelyn Lacsina, city health operations head, said that they conducted symposiums, forums, and free breast and cervical screening services on Thursday in an event entitled “Ating Dibdibin” held at Cayetano Sports Complex in Barangay Bagumbayan.

The event did not only raise awareness of the participants on breast cancer and about their health status but also shed light on myths and truths about it, Lacsina said.

Lacsina said that they chose public school teachers to be their participants as “it’s a way to spread knowledge and awareness on breast cancer.”

Tita Dazo, a Taguig City public school teacher, said that she joined the program to “grab the opportunity” to know that she is cancer-free.

“They say that health is wealth. So, I’m grabbing any opportunity to know my status and to feel relief that I have no cancer,” she said.

Mayor Lino Cayetano assured his constituents that the local government would continue exerting efforts to “attain a healthy city.”
