Senator Risa Hontiveros on Wednesday welcomed the decision of Vice President Leni Robredo to accept the offer of President Rodrigo Duterte to co-chair the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) until June 30, 2022.
“I was very welcoming of it. [It] was a most pleasant surprise. If a surprise to anyone at all and I firmly believe that she can do a much better job than has been done so far in the past three years on addressing our drug problem,” Hontiveros said in an interview with CNN Philippines.
Hontiveros said that if Robredo was given a full freedom and resources, she will be able to bring an effective and humane solution to the problem.
“If she’s given a full freedom, powers and the resources she will be able to bring an effective and humane solution to this problem so I’m calling on the Dangerous Drugs Board, PDEA, Philippine National Police, of course the Department of Health, and the Department of Justice and all the other agencies in that interagency body to support her and follow her lead because she is ready to lead,” Hontiveros said.
Robredo announced on Wednesday her decision to accept President Duterte’s offer to co-chair ICAD during a media briefing at the Quezon City Reception House.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director-General Aaron Aquino co-chairs ICAD with Robredo.
