Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio said he wants to convince President Rodrigo Duterte to assert the arbitral ruling of the West Philippine Sea.
“[In] The latest SWS survey 93% of the people want the ruling asserted only 7% do not want and in those 7% President Duterte,” Carpio said in an interview with ANC on Thursday.
“We have to convince PRRD and the rest of the 7%, it’s important that the Filipino people will be on the same page here because we are defending our sovereign rights we have to be united” he added.
Carpio said when President Rodrigo was elected before assuming office, he offered to brief President Duterte about the West Philippine Sea.
“I offered to brief him and he said just brief my cabinet.” he said.
The retired Associate Justice said he will have more time to continue his advocacy for the West Philippine Sea.
“I will have more time to give lectures and I have lined up a lot of lectures domestically and abroad so to convince the rest of the world to help us convince China to respect the ruling. “ he said.
“As a DHO, a diehard optimist, I believe this seemingly impossible dream can still be achieved with your help… At age 70, I plan to spend most of my remaining waking hours defending our sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea.” he added.
