DOJ spokesman Undersecretary Markk Perete cited that under Malacanang’s Administrative Order No. 1 state prosecutors are required to join investigations involving attacks against journalists.

“All incidents involving media workers are automatically investigated under the Admin Order No. 01 mechanism. Under that mechanism, our prosecutors lead case build up,” he said.

“It’s a special mechanism where prosecutors lead a team of investigators with law enforcers as team members,” Perete also explained.

Last Wednesday afternoon, Radyo ni Juan station manager Benjie Caballero was attacked by two unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen in front of his house in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

At that time, Caballero was waiting for a ride on his way to work when he was fired upon by the suspects who were armed with .45 caliber pistols.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound in the chest and was rushed to the St. Louis Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Meanwhile, police investigators have yet determined the possible motive behind the attack.
