We are calling on everybody to first of all pray to the Lord for the safety of those affected by the earthquake," he told Church-run Radyo Veritas.

The cardinal also asked the faithful to help the victims.

I hope we will be open to help when the dioceses, parishes in the said area call for assistance)," said Tagle.

Father Jun Balatero, rector of the Kidapawan cathedral, also echoed the call of the cardinal for prayers.

He also said that all churches will be open to accommodate evacuees.

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit Cotabato, Tuesday, killing at least two people and injuring several others.

The tremor caused damage to a number of infrastructures in Mindanao.
