Safety tips on computer radiation

We are living in a world of computer communications loosely referred to as cyberspace. Unbelievably, the imagined cyberspace that Gibson created in his fantasy later turned out to be an actual cyberspace where mass computer connectivity all over the world became a practical reality.

It is indeed amazing that in just a short time, computer technology has already collapsed the world so to speak since any amount of information can be transmitted almost to any and from anywhere in the world at the touch of a finger without regard to national geographic boundaries at the speed of light. Sad to say however, there are health risks brought about by the “overuse” of computers or by not adhering to basic safety tips to minimize computer radiation.

Let me share with you information related to the use of computer especially to exposure to the radiation emitting from the computer. The information mentioned hereunder were taken from researches, reports, and studies on computer radiation taken from the Internet. (References & Sources:;;

  • Do you know that using the computer for many hours a day exposes us to the radiation emitting from the monitor of the computer – not the CPU. Thus the less time we spend sitting in front of the computer screen and the further the distance we are from the computer will mean smaller amounts of radiation entering our body. Also, taking frequent breaks now and then (say every 20 minutes) and walking around will lessen the risk of our exposure to computer radiation;
  • Do you know that using the computers for some hours a day (say 4 hours or more) may cause us to experience symptoms of being exposed to computer radiation like: Dry eyes, dehydration, irritability, headaches, blurred vision, sleep disturbances like insomnia, light sensitivity, skin rashes, fatigue, nausea or dizziness, dry wrinkled skin, itchy blisters, sweating, short-term memory loss and heart disorders. For those who have been using computers for long hours every day for a long time already – there have been linkages to various cancers, birth defects and miscarriages; cell fragmentation; DNA damage; fertility problems and other health concerns.
  • Do you know that using a radiation filter and radiation protection glasses will eliminate more than 90% of the radiation;
  • Do you know that our diet plays a major role in minimizing and/or preventing computer radiation. Foods rich in anti-oxidant fight the free radicals caused by computer radiation like tomatoes, cherries, apples, broccoli and carrots. These foods contain significant amounts of vitamins A and C. Also, starting a daily diet of herbal foods and drinks like sipping herbal tea will reduce exposure to computer radiation;
  • Unknown to many, drinking plenty of water likewise minimizes our exposure to computer radiation. Keeping an ionizer near the computer will neutralize the radiation, too;
  • Do you that using your laptops and tablets on the battery instead of the main power supply is a safety tip to reduce computer radiation. Unfortunately, not many of us know this;
  • Do you know that to neutralize computer radiation, it is better to place your laptops and tablets on a table while using them rather than placing your laptop computers on your lap or knee. Laptop shields also help neutralize computer radiation;
  • Do you know that placing some cactus plants around your computer is a good health practice because cactus plants have the ability to absorb the electromagnetic radiation coming from the computer;
  • Do you know that natural crystal salt lamps help cancel out the electromagnetic radiation being emitted by your computer thus helping to maintain a normal ionic balance in the air;
  • Do you know that simply washing your face after using the computer can remove the radiation that has settled there. When sitting in front of the computer screen, our faces are usually the closest part of our bodies to the screen and the particles of radiation can attach themselves there; and
  • Do you know that turning off the Wi-Fi at night or whenever you are not using it is healthful because less invisible waves roll around our homes. Rather than leaving our Wi-Fi “on” the whole day and/or the whole night.
