The school was this year’s host of the “One Million Children Praying the Rosary” organized by the Aid to the Church in Need (CAN) Philippines.

Don Bosco students recited the fifth decade of the rosary while children from Syria , Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Mazombique took turns in reciting the first to the fourth decade of the rosary via video.

Father Jose Favie Valdez, rector of DBTI, thanked ACN for the opportunity to host the event which was also graced by Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Gabriele Caccia.

“We thank ACN for this rare occasion to host this event with our elementary Bosconians,” he said.

“It is in our tradition that one is truly a son of Don Bosco if he or she always has a rosary in his pocket. Don Bosco himself said where the rosary is recited, there will be days of peace and tranquility,” added Valdez.

Caccia, meantime, thanked the students on behalf Pope Francis for heeding the call to prayer.

“Today, I bring to you the greetings of Pope Francis…I bring also the gratitude because you answered his appeal for prayer together with children all over the world,” he said.

“I give you the blessing of the Holy Father so you will continue to be good disciples and bring joy, unity and peace in this world,” added Caccia.

The papal nuncio also took the occasion to appeal to those present to include the pontiff in their prayers when they recite the rosary.

“When you pray the rosary, pray for Pope Francis that he can continue to guide the church as St. Peter did with the other apostles at the beginning,” said Caccia.

At the end of the event, the nuncio personally distributed to students a rosary blessed by the Holy Father himself and a prayer card with the image of the pontiff in front.

Organized by Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) International, the rosary campaign aims to gather children from every continent to pray the rosary for mutual harmony among nations.

The campaign came into being in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas in 2005.

ACN Philippines started the campaign in 2016 after it began its operation in Manila, as one of the two national offices in Asia.
