Deputy Speaker and 1PACMAN Partylist Rep. Michael “Mikee” Romero Wednesday lauded the appointment of Chief Justice “Dado” M. Peralta to the top post in the Supreme Court, citing the newly-appointed CJ as a “legal intellectual” who can ensure effective administration of the judiciary.
House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez also cited Peralta’s appointment, saying this will “highlight the intellectual leadership in the Supreme Court (SC). He will champion good governance and serve as a beacon of light in maintaining the pristine supremacy of the Constitution.”
In a press statement, Romero said President Rodrigo Duterte also deserved praise for “making Lady Justice smile” over all his three choices he so far made for the highest magistrate in the country.
“Further, President Rodrigo R. Duterte deserves praise for making Lady Justice smile when he mustered the highest sense of objectivity and used his own insightful judgment in all three chief justice appointments he has made as chief executive of this nation,” he said.
Philreca Partylist rep. Presley C. de Jesus also cited Peralta’s promotion to the top SC post.
“His unwavering hard work and perseverance in fighting for the truth and giving justice for the Filipino people is truly commendable,” said De Jesus.
The neophyte lawmaker said he is confident that “with his firm leadership”, justice will always be upheld in the country.
Romero said like his predecessor, recently-retired CJ Lucas P. Bersamin, Peralta’s promotion was ‘well deserved.”
“CJ Dado and CJ Bersamin have been bosom buddies ever since they occupied adjacent court salas as judges of the Regional Trial Court of Quezon City many years back,” he recalled.
“Both served with distinction as they upheld the rule of law in cases they handled,” stated Romero, president of the 44-man Partylist Coalition Foundation Inc.
He added: “Like CJ Bersamin, CJ Peralta is a legal intellectual who will contribute immensely in the effective administration of the judiciary and in ensuring the impartial interpretation of both the letter and spirit of the law.”
“The 1PACMAN Partylist also hopes that social justice will always be given utmost attention in
legal controversies that involve our poor and marginalized constituents” said Romero.
