BJMP spokesman Chief Inspector Xavier Solda said Ampatuan was taken to the hospital on Monday afternoon for “cardiovascular disease infarct secondary to cardiac dysrhythmia”.

He sought for understanding as the hospital where Ampatuan is confined cannot be disclosed due to security reasons.

“ We assure the public that when he was initially rushed to a public hospital, he was not given any special treatment but only those medical attention that is needed to be given to him upon the attending physician considering his medical condition,’’ Solda said.

Solda issued the statement after being questioned that Ampatuan who belongs to a powerful clan in Maguindanao will be provided with preferential treatment.

“He is showing signs of ‘stroke’ before he was rushed to the hospital,” he added.

Solda noted that the last medical bulletin confirmed that Ampatuan is now in stable condition.

To recall, a Quezon City judge last June allowed Ampatuan to be hospitalized at the Philippine Heart Center for recovery and tests after he was diagnosed with heart ailments.

Ampatuan is now detained at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City together with the other accused including his brother and principal accused Andal Jr.

On November 23, 2009, 58 people mostly journalists were killed in what is infamously known as the Maguindanao massacre where a convoy led by members of the Mangudadatu clan were blocked in a remote area in Barangay Misalay in Maguindanao.
