4.5 magnitude quake jolts Cotabato province anew

BUTUAN CITY - A 4.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Cotabato province anew at dawn today, Oct. 18, 2019, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its latest bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake was registered at 1:50 a.m.

The epicenter was plotted 15 kilometers (km) southeast of Tulunan (Cotabato), it said.

The earthquake had a shallow depth of only 1 km.

The dawn tremor in Cotabato province was tectonic in origin and no aftershock alert was raised by the state agency.

This is an aftershock of the October 16, 2019 M6.3 Cotabato province event, Phivolcs added.

At 5:59 a.m. on Friday, a 3.1 magnitude tectonic earthquake was also registered and its epicenter was traced 21 km southwest of Tulunan (Cotabato) with a depth of 49 km, the state agency also reported.
