Longest longganisa line stretches along Baguio’s main road

BAGUIO CITY – A line of longganisa that stretched along the 7.862-kilometer Session Rd. Sunday is the longest so far for the city.

LONGEST LINE OF LONGGANISA – The Hotel and Retaurant in Baguio (HRAB) with the sponsorship of MB Alabansa Meat, displayed a 7.862 kilometer longest line of native longganisa paraded by 1,400 culinary students around the Session Road, Baguio City, one the highlights in celebrating 15th edition of the Hotel and Restaurant Tourism (HRT) Weekend in the Summer Capital, breaking the second and first longganisa festival with 3.5 kilometer and 6 kilometers respectively in 2006 and 2010.A total of 11,910 dozens made out of 3,633  kilos of pork lean,1,300 kilos of garlic,262 kilos of dry spices and 71 liters of wet ingredients. Placing the native sausage end to end and measuring the total length is the highlight of the Hotel and Restaurant Tourism (HRT) Weekend in Baguio.

Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) Spokeperson Andrew Pinero, said the longest longganisa line – about 3.5 kilometers – was achieved in 2006. The second longest was over 6 kilometers, recorded in 2010.

This year’s line was created by 1,400 culinary students. It consisted of 11,910 dozens of sausages made out from 3,633 kilos of pork lean, 1,300 kilos of garlic, 262 kilos of dry spices and 71 liters of wet ingredients.

The HRT Weekend is a private sector-led event to help the city government market Baguio as a major tourist destination.

Other events included the Search for Mr. and Ms. HRAB is scheduled on Oct. 7 at the Cordillera Convention Hall of the Baguio Country Club.

Hundreds of hospitality industry students and professionals from universities in Cordillera and Northern Luzon will also be competing in different events Oct. 10 to 12.

Pinero said organizers divided the competition into the student and professional categories.

Initially, 30 schools have confirmed their participation in the competitions, while 10 hospitality establishments plan to join the competitions in the professional category.
