Construction worker shot dead in QC

A 31-year-old construction worker was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding gunmen while walking near his house in Quezon City Wednesday night.

Investigators of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said victim Fernando Sazon, a resident in Barangay Batasan Hills succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds upon arriving at the hospital.

Initial report from QCPD's Batasan Police Station (PS-6) showed that Sazon's brother, Zandro, was inside their house around 10:30 p.m. when he heard gunshots nearby.

When checked, he already saw the victim slumped bloodied on the ground.

He also noticed two men both wearing black jacket and black helmet onboard a motorcycle hurriedly sped-off away from the scene.

Zandro reported the incident to authorities while the victim was rushed to Diliman Doctors Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds on different parts of his body.

Sazon's family is clueless on possible motives behind the incident as they claimed that the victim has no known enemies.

Probers are now conducting a follow-up investigation to identify and locate the gunmen and to establish the motive behind the killing. (Alexandria San Juan)

P140K 'marijuana' seized in QC

Bricks and sachets of dried marijuana leaves worth more than P140,000 were seized from four young men nabbed in an anti-illegal drug operation in Quezon City early Thursday.

Quezon City Police District's Masambong Police Station (PS-2) chief Lt. Col. Rodrigo Soriano identified the arrested suspects as Kenneth David, 22, Marx Abatayo, 22, Stephen Fernandez, 23, and Reynaldo Gonzales, 22.

Police said the four men were newly-identified drug personalities in the area of PS-2 and were involved in illegal drug peddling particularly selling dried marijuana leaves.

Members of PS-2 Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) conducted a drug sting against the group on the corner of Uranus and Jupiter Streets around 4 a.m.

During the deal, an undercover officer transacted with the men who arrived in a red Honda car bearing plate number TNM 646 resulting in their arrest.

Seized from the group were five bricks and five sachets of dried marijuana leaves with an estimated stret value of P146,000, the buy-bust money, and the car which police said was used by the group in their drug deal.

Arrested suspects are now under the custody of PS-2 while charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against them before the Quezon City Prosecutors Office. (Alexandria San Juan)

31-year-old man gunned down in Las Piñas 

Police are still conducting an investigation on the killing of a 31-year-old man, who was gunned down in Las Piñas City Tuesday morning.

The Southern Police District identified the victim as Junnifer Wesley, jobless and resident of the city.

Investigation showed that Wesley was walking along Samuel St. in Manuyo Dos around 12:45 a.m. when the incident happened.

Police said that an armed man suddenly appeared and shot Wesley to his left ear, killing him instantly.

Police said that they are hunting down the suspect who fled on foot and brought with him the firearm he used.

Authorities are getting closed-circuit television (CCTV) footages nearby the crime scene, police said. (Joseph Almer Pedrajas)

2 drug peddlers arrested in San Juan buy-bust

Two suspected drug peddlers were arrested by police in a buy-bust operation in San Juan City Thursday.

Colonel Jaime Santos, city police chief, identified the suspects as Katherine Policarpio, 39; and Josie Alba, 39. Both are residents in San Juan City.

Members of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit conducted the drug sting along 1st West Crame Street in Barangay West Crame on Thursday morning.

After dealing with an undercover police, Policarpio and Alba were then nabbed by policemen waiting nearby.

Authorities seized a sachet of suspected shabu worth P300 from Alba.

Two more sachets of suspected shabu were recovered from Policarpio’s possesion when they were apprehended, police said.

Police said the suspects were included in the drug watchlist of San Juan City Police.

Suspects were detained at the city police custodial facility facing charges for the violation of the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
