Hugpong ng Pagbabago chairperson and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Bayan Muna Rep. Eufemia Cullamat for continuously berating the Department of Education, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and “government in general.”
“The government pays for her office. The same government that has helped hundreds if not thousands of IP students compared to the NPA school they call Salugpungan,” stated Duterte in response to Cullamat’s press statement on Monday.
Cullamat chided President Duterte’s daughter for allegedly misinforming the public about the “lumad” or Salugpungan school that was established by various organizations to address discrimination, poverty, and militarization of indigenous communities in Southern Mindanao.
Earlier, the lady mayor revealed that Davao City council had passed a resolution urging the Department of Education to terminate and cancel the permit to operate issued to 11 Salugpungan schools in Davao City.
The local legislative council cited the failure of school authorities to issue academic records of enrolled students and the presence of DepEd schools in areas covered by Salugpungan schools among the reasons for the request.
“The City Government conducted due diligence in inquiring into the activities of Salugpungan schools before coming up with a CPOC resolution. The decision was based on facts, not on a whim or rumors as critics and anti-government forces want the public to believe,” stressed Duterte.
Reacting to Cullamat’s press statement on Monday, Davao City’s chief executive chided Cullamat for allegedly acting as communist movement’s defender.
“Apart from being a mouthpiece and defender of the CPP-NPA-NDFP, she is a big empty space. And for the record the AFP works for me, they only do as much as I allow them because civilian authority is supreme over the military, “she said.
“Siya dapat ang mahiya, di nga siya nagbabasa ng Phil. Constitution,” stressed Duterte.
In her press statement, Cullamat lamented that instead of supporting moves to educate lumad youth, Duterte chose to destroy the credibility of their schools.
“Ang anak na ito ng pangulo ay hindi na nahiya sa pinagsasasabi niyang kasinungalingan, at pinaggagagawa niyang pagpapatuta sa mga militar,” the lady solon lamented.
The military have long suspected schools for lumad that were established and supported by Left-leaning organizations as institutions used by the communist movement to indoctrinate young Lumads.
