Fire hits residential area in Ermita

Four people were injured in a fire that hit a residential area along San Marcelino Street, Manila, at the back of Adamson University Thursday afternoon.

Initial investigation showed the fire started on the third floor of a three-story residential area along Sylvia Street, Ermita Manila at 12:19 p.m. on Sept. 26.

Fire Inspector Alejandro Ramos, Chief Public Information Section of the Manila Fire District, said the houses affected by the fire — mostly dormitories and apartments —  were made of light materials.

Mercedes, Zobel and Sylvia Streets were affected by the blaze.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) said they dispatched two fire trucks and an ambulance at 12:19 pm, while the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) came to the site at 1:26 pm.

The blaze was raised to the 5th alarm at 12:48 pm. It was declared under control at 3:58 pm.

Meanwhile, the Manila Department of Social Welfare said 1,000 individuals were affected by the fire including 900 students.

The cause of fire is still under investigation.
