ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police raided a hideout of the Abu Sayyaf Group in this city before dawn Thursday and arrested what they described as four bomb makers.
The Zamboanga Peninsula police director, Brig. Gen. Froilan Quidilla, said a team from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) carried out raid in Barangay Baliwasan Grande here.
Quidilla identified the bomb makers as Aljiver Habibula, 35; Omar Julaspih, 22; Rody Marail, 36, and Nash Amik, 32.
There are unconfirmed reports that the Abu Sayyaf plans to bomb key government installations and places where crowds in this city during the month-long Feast of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar which starts this Saturday.
Among the items recovered from the hideout were five blasting caps, 40mm ammunition, detonating cord, ammonium nitrate in a plastic container, a cellphone suspected to be the triggering device.
The four suspects were brought to the CIDG detention cell.
