Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro offered a P200,000 reward on Tuesday to anyone who could give information on the culprits behind the dead pigs found floating in Marikina River.

The City Veterinary Services Office said Monday that a total of 58 hog carcasses carried by the water current were retrieved from various portions of the 27-kilometer waterway.

“Magbibigay ako P200,000 sa kung sino man ang makakapagbigay ng impormasyon sa culprit ng pagtapon ng 58 na mga baboy sa Marikina River (I pledge P200,000 to anyone who could give information on the culprit who dumped the 58 pigs in the Marikina River),” Teodoro said.

“Kailangan conclusively dapat iyong info. Iyong sa mismong magkakapagturo ng gumawa ng pagtatapon (The information should be conclusively. It should exactly pinpoint those who did the dumping),” he added.

The cash reward, the mayor said, is coming from his own pocket.

“Personal kong pera iyang iniaalok ko. Ito ay inaalok ko para makatulong sa pagtukoy ng kung sino man ang nagtapon ng mga baboy (It is my personal money that I offer. I offer this to help determine whoever dumped the pigs),” he said.

The city government also considers filling a writ of kalikasan before the Marikina Regional Trial Court (RTC).

A writ of kalikasan is a legal remedy available to an individual or groups whose right to a balanced and healthy environment has been threatened or violated.

“Magpa-file tayo ng Writ of Kalikasan sa Marikina RTC. Kasi tayo ang aggrieved party sa insidenteng ito. Ang effect kasi ay nasa atin (We will file a writ of kalikasan before the Marikina RTC. This is because we are the aggrieved party in this incident. The effect was on us),” Teodoro said.

Teodoro said Sunday that the city government will file criminal and civil complaints against the persons who improperly disposed of the pig carcasses on the river.

Personnel from the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) and the Marikina City government on Tuesday took water samples from five areas in the stretch of Marikina River.

This is to determine if the water flowing through the waterway has been contaminated.

Water samples were taken from Roman Garden in Marikina; Circulo Verde in Eastwood, Quezon City; in Barangay Calumpang; Barangay Tumana; and in Barangay Nangka.
