BATAC CITY, Ilocos Norte – The provincial government of Ilocos Norte marked Wednesday the 102nd birthday anniversary of President Ferdinand E. Marcos by distributing relief aid to victims of a recent storm.
The activities were on top of the simultaneous mass and wreath-laying ceremony at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Monument in the town of Sarrat and at the “Daytoy ti Bannawag” Monument in Batac City.
Storm “Ineng” left more than P1.238 billion in damage to infrastructure and crops when it barreled across Ilocos Norte last August 23.
Relief goods were distributed Wednesday in Batac City. Relief aid will also be distributed in the municipalities of Vintar and Paoay on September 12 and 13. Batac, Vintar and Paoay were hard-hit by floods brought by Ineng.
Provincial Tourism Officer Ian B. Raquel said the weeklong commemoration of Marcos’ birth anniversary also includes free dialysis treatments administered by the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center on Sept. 11 and 12.
“The Marcosses headed by our Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, and Senator Imee R. Marcos graced the event especially during the relief operations and our free dialysis activity in Batac City,” Raquel said.
Instead of the annual dinengdeng, FEM’s favorite dish, this year’s cooking showdown at Robinsons Place in San Nicolas, featured nateng or vegetable as the main ingredient.
“Dati very specific tayo—dinengdeng. This time we are diversifying the contest to cook whatever dish they prefer as long as gulay ang main ingredient at pwede rin nilang lagyan ng kaunting sahog,” Raquel said.
More than 100 young artists also participated in the wall art painting activity along the Sirib Mile, Laoag City.
Other activities were a quiz show, dance competitions, the Macoy Debate Cup, vlog-making contest, “Ferdie and Imelda” look-alike and singing contest, and a speech choir competition.
