CAMP OLA, Albay – At least 2,000 police officers were deployed in Naga City to help maintain peace and order during the celebration of Peñafrancia Festival on Sept. 21.
Major Malu Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said the reinforcements came from the Albay and Sorsogon police.
They will provide security coverage during the traslacion and fluvial procession.
The traslacion, the transferring of the image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia and the Divino Rostro to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Naga for a novena and masses is scheduled for this Friday, while the fluvial procession to return the images to the Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Peñafrancia is on Sept. 21.
Millions of pilgrims and tourists are expected to attend the event.
“Peñafrancia Festival is one of the biggest and most popular religious events in the region wherein influx of devotees from different provinces are expected to join the activity,” Calubaquib said.
The police was placed on full alert for the festival.
