The traffic in EDSA will worsen during “ber” months because of the increased volume of private vehicles, an official of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Tuesday.

“Close to 300,000 ang vehicles sa NCR last year. So for the past seven months, may nadagdag na tayong 200,000. Pagdating ng December n’yan, puno na naman [EDSA] kasi nadagdagan ‘yong volume,” said MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia.

(There were 300,000 vehicles in the NCR last year. So for the past seven months, there have been 200,000 additional vehicles already. In December, EDSA will be congested because the volume of cars increased.)

He added that 30 to 40 percent of their alternative routes were already congested too.

“Not counting Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite that’s around 100,000 [additional cars] a year, pumapasok din ng Metro Manila ‘yan (Those cars enter Metro Manila as well). If only we can make a law na (to) i-prohibit ‘yong sales ng kotse (of cars),”

The MMDA general manager said EDSA is very unpredictable; sometimes congested, sometimes not and added that it is important to just have “discipline” and follow traffic rules.

“Ang sa akin lang, wag na tayong magpadagdag sa problema,” Garcia ended.
