“If POGO hub means something like an ecozone, I don’t find the idea objectionable,” the Secretary said.

“As long as the Chinese strictly obey our laws and ordinances and respect our customs and traditions, and do not take away jobs that Filipinos themselves can do, I am not alarmed at all,” he added.

Government officials have been expressing their concern over the influx of Chinese nationals in the country, many of whom work for POGOs.

“Our own countrymen migrate by the hundreds of thousands to other countries, but no one has expressed any serious concern at all,” Guevarra argued.

Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has shown uneasiness over POGO centers being located near major military bases like those in Resorts World in Pasay which is close to the Villamor Airbase.

Lorenzana pointed out these POGO centers could be used by China as spying facilities, considering that these were online operations being done in closed-doors.

POGOs are usually usually run by Chinese businessmen, and mostly caters also to Chinese.
