Transwoman Gretchen Custodio Diez on Tuesday was handcuffed and brought to the police station in Cubao for using the female rest room.

“Sa mga nagsasabing hindi na natin kailangan ng SOGIE Equality Law kasi tanggap na naman ang LGBT sa Pinas: A transwoman has just been humiliated in a mall restroom in Cubao. Pinosasan at dinala sa Karingal!” Hontiveros said.

Hontiveros said what happened to Diez was “unacceptable”.

“She is being harassed for living her truth. Discrimination against transgender people has to STOP! LGBT persons face harassment & discrimination every day. This must STOP!” Hontiveros said.

The senator added that the mall “wanted” Diez to “violate how she self-identifies.”

“The incident exposed her to harassment and abuse that could have happened if forced to enter the men’s CR,” Hontiveros said.

“Iihi ka lang sana, pero dahil transgender person ka, kulong. Unfair,” she added.

Hontiveros said she already sent a lawyer from her office to help Diez with her case.

“Gretchen has my full support. I am extending whatever help she would need to seek justice,” she added.
