He said that because of this latest development, Manila’s shelter for the homeless Boys and Girls town in Marikina, and the Manila Reception and Action Center were already full.

Because of this, he appealed to the parents of the children that the city government has rescued, to go to these shelters, and take custody of their children.

“Marami pong mga magulang ang kinuha na ang kanilang mga anak” (Many of the parents have already taken custody of their children),” he said.

He also appealed to the parents of the street children not to lose hope even when life proves to be really hard.

“Kung yung nanay ko nawalan ng pagasa sa akin, baka wala ako sa kinalalagyan ko ngayon (If my parents lost hope, I may not be where I am right now),” the Manila mayor said.

The mayor again drew from his own experience in narrating that, when he was younger, he and his family had to eat food which they got from the garbage bin.

But even though they were poor, he never felt that his parents ever thought of abandoning him or fend off for himself in the streets.
