Filipina dies in road accident in Winnipeg

A 24-year-old Filipina died a day before her birthday after she was hit by a vehicle at a crosswalk in Winnipeg, Canada.

After the incident happened August 1, Jillian Lammatao suffered from critical injuries then died five days after, according to a report from CBC News.

More than a hundred people reportedly attended the prayer vigil for Jillian Wednesday which was organized by the Filipino community in Winnipeg, Canada.

“She was the sweetest, thoughtful, friend, lover, sister, daughter. She means a lot to me. And to all of us too,” her friend Drei Alcuran said during the vigil.

Many of Jillian’s family and friends shared their loving stories about her, many of whom speak in Tagalog, Jillian’s mother tongue.

The suspect, an 89-year-old man was arrested at the scene and may face charges pending the outcome of the investigation, according to CBC News.
