The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced that it had to suspend ramp movement for both aircraft and ground personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Friday afternoon, disrupting operations in its passenger terminals.
MIAA apologized to all affected passengers, and explained that it was due to bad weather and continuing rain and lightning.
The suspension of operations came after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a Lightning Red Alert at 1:29 p.m. Friday.
The issuance of the alert was a safety measure taken to prevent any untoward incident from happening when lightnings become prevalent in the immediate area, and could endanger personnel, passengers and even flight operations.
