Amid the continuous rains, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), together with the local government unit (LGU) of Pateros, led the clearing operations on Thursday in portions of three barangays in the municipality.
This is in line with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to reclaim all public roads in Metro Manila within 60 days.
Illegal structures along the sidewalks were dismantled and demolished by the personnel of MMDA Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group led by MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim and Pateros Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce.
Lim has recognized the efforts of Mayor Ponce to clear areas in his jurisdiction from any obstruction.
“I’m very much contented with the result of clearing operations here at Pateros. Very clean and organized,” Lim stressed.
For his part, Ponce said that even before the Department of Interior and Local Government issued its memorandum circular wherein Metro Manila mayors were given 60 days to clear public roads, the MMDA has already exerted efforts to conduct clearing operations in Pateros.
“I had a meeting with Sanggunian Bayan and I’ve deputized all the councillors to assist us in clearing operations. Also, I’m planning to increase penalties and formulate additional local ordinance with regards to clearing operations,” Ponce added.
