LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – The provincial governments of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur provided assistance to the victims of two earthquakes that struck Batanes province over the weekend.
On Monday, Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc announced that the provincial government had donated cash assistance of P500,000 as relief aid for the almost 3,000 quake victims.
“The Governors League has been coordinating over the weekend and we will be arranging aircraft that will take off from Laoag International Airport (LIA) to provide assistance to Batanes quake victims since LIA is the closest airport to the province,” Manotoc said.
Ilocos Sur Gov. Ryan Luis V. Singson said the provincial government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) distributed relief goods worth P200,000 to the victims.
“We are always ready to extend help to other provinces because that is our mission to help and served everybody,” said Singson.
Last July 27, two devastating tremors hit Itbayat Island.
As of Monday, nine people were reported dead, one person was missing and 911 families were affected.
The temblors also inflicted serious damage to ancestral houses, health facilities, and schools.
