PDEA Director General Aaron N. Aquino expressed appreciation for the decision penned by Judge Gil Bollozos, Judge of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) of the Cagayan de Oro Branch 21 on July 10, 2019 against accused Atty. Michael Roa, and his brother Porferio Roa Jr. for violation of Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002”; and their nephew John Rey Roa for violation of Section 15 (Use of Dangerous Drugs).

“The two Roa brothers were sentenced to suffer the penalty of life imprisonment and pay a fine of Php400,000.00, while their nephew will undergo six months rehabilitation in a government rehabilitation facility being a first time offender”, Aquino said.

To recall that on November 10, 2016, the Roas were arrested during the implementation of a search warrant served by elements of PDEA Regional Office X in Roa Street, Barangay 5, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.

During the operation, the PDEA operatives seized methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) weighing 67.82 grams and several drug paraphernalia.

Michael and his brother Porferio are sons of a former Provincial Board Member of Misamis Oriental, and also brothers to a former mayor of the municipality of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.

“The unwavering dedication and commitment of prosecutors and PDEA agents as witnesses played a crucial role in presenting air-tight evidence against the two in favor of the government. To see drug offenders, especially high-profile drug personalities, punished with the full force of the law is itself a victory,” Aquino concluded.
