President Duterte is outraged by the rape and killing of a one-year-old boy in Makati early Wednesday, assuring the public that authorities will give justice to the victim and his family.
Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo made the statement after it was reported that a one-year-old boy was found dead inside an abandoned building in Makati City Wednesday morning.
In a statement, Panelo said that the Palace condemns the crime, adding that Duterte was enraged when he learned of what happened.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the barbaric rape and murder of a one-year-old boy in Makati,” he said Thursday evening.
“The tragic news has reached the attention of the President and he, like all Filipinos, has been extremely outraged by this heinous criminal act,” he added.
The Palace, meanwhile, commended the authorities for immediately arresting the suspect who admitted to raping and choking the boy.
“The Palace commends the Philippine National Police for the immediate arrest of the suspect who admitted to this grisly crime,” Panelo said.
“Given the atrocity of this felony, investigation is also being undertaken to determine whether the suspect is under the influence of drugs,” he added.
“We assure everyone that authorities will leave no stone unturned to give justice to the young boy and his family,” he continued.
The suspect admitted to the crime but denied being under the influence of illegal drugs. Despite saying that it was because of alcohol, the police are waiting for the results on the drug test conducted on the suspect.
