Motorcycle ride killed in road accident in Makati

A motorcycle rider was killed after being hit by a sedan while he was on the side of the road getting his raincoat early morning in Makati City on Thursday.

The victim was identified as Romeo Entrina Lupida Jr., a cook, and resident of Dagat Dagatan, Malabon City. Lupida was pronounced dead on arrival at the Makati Medical Center.

Investigation showed that the incident occurred at around 3:10 in the morning at the westbound lane of McKinley Road near the front of the Manila Polo Club Gate, in Brgy. Forbes, Makati City.

Police said that Lupida was at the outer lane of the said roadway getting his raincoat which was inside the u-box attached to his motorcycle.

It was at this instance when an alleged Mazda sedan suddenly appeared from behind traveling along McKinley Road from BGC, Taguig City towards EDSA and hit Lupida as well as the rear end portion of his motorcycle.

Police added that sedan did not stop dragging the motorcycle and Lupida a few meters away from the collision, before speeding away towards EDSA.

The injured driver was brought to the Makati Medical Center where he later died. Police are still conducting follow-up investigation to identify the suspect. (Dhel Nazario)

Malabon cop gunned down by unidentified rider 

A Malabon City police officer was gunned down by a still unidentified lone motorcycle-riding assailant in Malabon on Wednesday evening.

P/Col. Jessie Tamayao, Malabon police chief, identified him as PSSgt. Orland Lucky Boy de Leon, 32,resident of Caloocan City and a member of the city police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU).

PSSgt. Mardelio Osting, case prober, said that de Leon was onboard his motorcycle and was on his way home, traveling along Araneta Ave. in Barangay Potrero, Malabon at around 6:15 p.m. when a gunman, on board a black motorcycle, appeared from behind.

Osting added that the assailant shot de Leon several times, killing him instantly.

Meanwhile, members of Malabon Police Community Precinct 2 (PCP-2), who were near the area when the incident happened, immediately respondent after hearing successive gunshots, police said.

Authorities tried to chase the suspect as he fled towards Monumento, but the latter managed to escape.

A certain Joyce, victim’s live-in partner, told police that her husband had no known enemies and was not receiving any death threats.

Osting told Manila Bulletin that de Leon became a member of Malabon police in 2018.

Recovered from the crime scene were 15 pieces of fired cartridge case and a deformed slug.

Probers are still getting closed-circuit television (CCTV) footages around the area to be able to identify the motive behind the killing, police said.

Police are also waiting for the autopsy result from the crime operatives. (Joseph Pedrajas)

Man shot by riding-in-tandem

A man who was attending his relative’s funeral was gunned down by two unidentified men on board a motorcycle on Wednesday in Manila.

The police identified the victim as Joel Aquino, 31, resident of Quezon Boulevard, Sampaloc, Manila. He was rushed to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

Investigation showed Aquino was attending the wake of his relative along Quezon Boulevard near corner Lerma Street Sampaloc, Manila when the suspects on board a black motorcycle shot him at around 4:45 p.m. on July 17.

The suspects managed to escape and fled towards northbound of Quezon Boulevard.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Joseph Kabigting said Aquino was included in their village drug watchlist.

Follow up investigation is now underway to apprehend the suspects and to establish the motive behind the killing. (Erma Edera)

P370k worth of ‘shabu’ and firearm seized in Navotas

Police seized P370,000 worth of suspected shabu and a firearm from two alleged drug personalities during a buy-bust operation in Navotas City Wednesday evening.

P/Col. Rolando Balasabas, Navotas police chief, said that his men arrested Marvin Castro, 29 and Joy Mabao, 23, residents of the city.

Police said that both Castro and Mabao were under drug watchlist.

Investigation showed that members of the city police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a sting against the two on Bonito St., Barangay North Bay Boulevard South Kaunlaran at around 11:45 p.m.

After a transaction with a police poseur buyer, the two suspects were immediately arrested.

Seized from Castro were a total of 11 pieces of suspected shabu, including the subject of the buy-bust, which were placed inside a purse; and a .45 caliber pistol with seven pieces of live ammunition.

Meanwhile, recovered from Mabao were three sachets of suspected shabu.

The recovered suspected illegal drugs have a total weight of 55 grams.

The suspects were then brought to police custody for proper disposition and might face illegal drugs and illegal firearms charges. (Joseph Pedrajas)
