The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has condemned the ambush on a team of its enforcers in Surigao City on Wednesday which resulted in the death of their team leader and injuries to two others.

“The LTO sends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Officer [Felixberto] Loayon, and its wishes for a full recovery for the wounded enforcers,” the agency said in its statement.

LTO-CARAGA Regional Director Nordy Plaza is also currently in Surigao City to extend assistance to the wounded LTO personnel and to the family of Loayon.

In a report received by the agency’s central office, Loayon and his team were in a patrol vehicle on their way back to Surigao District Office after conducting an anti-colorum operation in Surigao City on Wednesday morning.

While traversing Biorbojan Rizal, a part of Lipata, unidentified armed men ambushed the team’s vehicle killing Loayon on the spot.

Team Members Rene Cenangote and Freddie Wabina who were also inside the vehicle with Loayon were wounded, while Assistant Team Leader Estribo Belarmino was unharmed.

A follow-up investigation is now ongoing while the LTO-CARAGA Regional Office is coordinating with the police for the immediate resolution of the case.
