P35.6-M illegal drugs seized in Negros, Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY – An estimated P35,600 worth of illegal drugs were seized here and in Negros Occidental from January to June this year.


P22,375, 998 worth of drugs were confiscated by the Bacolod police, and P13,245,000 were recovered by the Negros Occidental police in six months.

Maj. Lester Leada, Bacolod police head of operations, said 1,491.559 grams of shabu worth P22,373,385 were seized, along with 11.3635 grams of marijuana worth P2,613.

Leada said 318 operations were conducted which resulted in the arrest of 492 persons, including 309 drug pushers, 173 drug users, and 10 minors.

A total of 791 cases were filed, Leada said.

The Negros Occidental police’s operations led to the recovery of 1,324.46 grams of shabu amounting to P13,244,600, and 15.04 grams of marijuana worth P376.

Maj. Edison Garcia, Negros Occidental police public information officer, said the drug haul this year increased because of the confiscations following the intensified campaign against illegal drugs.

The police station said 356 operations were carried out  during the first half the year, compared to last year’s 195 operations, covering the same period

“We doubled our efforts to at least lessen the existence of illegal drugs in the province,” Garcia said.

He reported that 54 operations were conducted in January, 75 in February, 64 in March, 52 in April, 51 in May, and 60 in June.

It also resulted in the arrest of 480 suspects and filing of 900 cases in court.
