LPA spotted off Laoag City

A low pressure area (LPA) was spotted off Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, while tropical storm “Falcon” looped and is now centered east of Aparri, Cagayan Wednesday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration reported.

As of 8:00 am, July 17, PAGASA located “Falcon” at 200 kilometers (kms) east of Apparri, Cagayan, while the new LPA was spotted 170 kms west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.


“Falcon” moves at 20 kilometers per hour (kph) in a west northwest direction, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gusts reaching 80 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 1 was lifted over the northern portion of Aurora, northern portion of Nueva Vizcaya, and northern portion of Quirino, and remained raised in Ilocos Norte, Abra, Kalinga, Isabela, Mountain Province, and Ifugao.

Meanwhile, TCWS No. 2 was raised in Apayao, Batanes. and Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands.

PAGASA warned of moderate to heavy rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, northern Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, and Guimaras.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with at times heavy rains will be experienced in Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, the rest of Visayas, and the rest of MIMAROPA.

“Falcon” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Friday morning.
