The Department of Health (DOH)- Calabarzon conducted a preliminary planning workshop regarding the Universal Health Care (UHC) law for local leaders in the region.
During the workshop, the DOH-Calabarzon gave orientation on the significant provisions of the UHC ”across all levels of governance providing the appropriate direction and support towards the implementation, institutionalization, and sustainability of the UHC.”
“We need to enlighten local leaders about UHC and clarify how health system reforms in the public health sector will be instituted,” said Regional Director Eduardo Janairo.
Janairo emphasized that the local leaders were important in the implementation of the UHC.
“We need to get their support and commitment for the UHC to work. These local leaders must work together to achieve the purpose of a universal health coverage through a complemented and sustained political guarantee to translate the plans into actions; to make health outcomes more equitable and health systems more resilient,” said Janairo.
The DOH official underscored that the UHC means that everyone must have access to health care services.
“No one should be left behind and suffer the financial consequences when they need to seek treatment and care in any health facility,” said Janairo.
