Recently, hundreds of Grade 11 and 12 learners gathered during the Aboitiz High School Scholars General Assembly and Career Clinic.

The Aboitiz High School Financial Assistance Program is one of the Aboitiz Foundation and Aboitiz units Visayan Electric Co., Inc., East Asia Utilities Corporation, Cebu Private Power Corporation, as well as Aboitiz partners Banilad Center for Professional Development and Science and Technology Education Center joined the event.

The career clinic’s plenary session was facilitated by Gabriel Billones, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Y Loop Digital Solutions, a Manila-based agency specializing in digital innovation for social causes and advocacies.

Billones also provided insights on “responsible digital citizenship, providing guidance to the scholars on how to be effective online brand ambassadors of the Aboitiz brand and the academic institution that they represent.”

The Grade 11 scholars also learned about excelling in senior high school tracks from Department of Education (DepEd) Senior Education Program Specialist Jona Valdez.

In the meantime, Grade 12 scholars learned about the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) student financial assistance programs and priority courses from CHED Region VII Program Supervisor Melissa Castillote.

They also came to know of CHED’s Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UNIFAST), a student loan program, from CHED Region VII Project Technical Staff Daniel Malunjao.

“More than the support we give by way of financial assistance and scholarships, we hope that through our guidance, you will strive to excel and live out the values of integrity, teamwork, innovation, and responsibility,” said Aboitiz Foundation’s First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Maribeth Marasigan.

“In the future, we hope you will look back to this day as the fuel that ignited a strong desire to advance business and communities,” Marasigan said. “We hope that whatever you learned — or will learn — in school and from us, hones you to become nation-builders and our reliable partners in co-creating safe, empowered, and sustainable communities,” she added.

The Aboitiz Group’s high school and college Academic Excellence Awardees were also recognized. For school year 2018-2019, there were four (4) Cum Laude, and two (2) Magna Cum Laude Aboitiz Foundation scholars who each received a certificate of recognition and cash incentive from the Foundation.

The Aboitiz High School Scholars General Assembly and Career Clinic is an annual event that gathers high school scholars to engage them and provide learning sessions that are supplemental to their academic undertakings. It is also the venue where they receive financial assistance for the school year.

The Aboitiz Foundation is the corporate foundation of the Aboitiz Group that was established in 1988. Its purpose is to drive change for a better world by advancing business and communities through programs on education, enterprise development, and environment.

Since its inception in 1988, the Foundation’s CSR interventions have evolved from one-time donations to carefully designed programs that empower its beneficiaries to pursue their aspirations.

Currently, the Aboitiz Foundation, through the Aboitiz Business Units, develops and implements corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs or CSR 2.0 projects that aim to co-create safe, empowered, and sustainable communities. These CSR 2.0 projects are aligned to the Group’s core competencies, are scalable nationwide, and create deeper social impact on the communities and beneficiaries it serves.
