Senator Imee Marcos said the Philippines should immediately cut its ties with Iceland for its intrusion in the country’s affairs.

It was Iceland that drafted the resolution asking the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to come up with a “comprehensive written report” on the human rights situation in the Philippines amid claims of extrajudicial and state-sponsored killings in the Duterte government’s war on drugs.

The resolution was adopted following a vote of 18 countries, including Iceland, while 14 voted against its and 15 abstained.

Marcos said she agrees with the administration’s position to reject the adopted measure as she hit Iceland for supposedly meddling with the country’s internal affairs.

“Higit sa lahat, para sa akin, agad-agad na natin putulin ating diplomatic ties with Iceland. Ano namang pake nila sa atin? Wala nga silang alam dito sa Pilipinas, hindi naman sila nagsisipunta rito (Most of all, I think, we should immediately cut our diplomatic ties with Iceland. What do they have to do with us? They do not know the Philippines, they do not even go here),” Marcos told radio DWIZ in an interview Saturday afternoon.

Marcos added that Iceland has yet to prove its claim of human rights violations under the Duterte administration, claiming that it was only fed with information from Filipinos who have “connived” with the President’s critics in the United States.

Marcos also echoed Duterte in saying that Iceland does not understand the Philippines’ problems with drugs. The Nordic country’s culture and laws, she pointed out, cannot be compared with those of the Philippines.

“Sabi nga ni Presidente Duterte, puro ‘ice lang’ ang problema nila. Eh tayo napakairming problema. Pati ‘ice’ na shabu, eh. Talagang naiiba yong sitwasyon natin sa kanila (As the President said, their only problem is ice, while we have a lot of problems, including ‘ice’ or shabu),” she said.
