DAVAO CITY — President Duterte’s youngest son Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte will now act on the proposal of his sister Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio requesting the Office of the President to exempt the city from the implementation of Martial Law in Mindanao.
The young Duterte said in a press briefing, the city council will make a resolution for the said request to exclude the city from military rule.
“Tan-aw nako capable man siya of securing the city. Di man na niya buhaton in the first place, di man na niya i-propose in the first place kung dili niya kaya (I can see that she is capable of securing the city. She will not propose this if the mayor cannot do it), “he said.
The vice mayor assured the mayor of full support from the members of the 19th City Council.
Duterte added that this proposal will also be discussed in the Executive-Legislative Agenda meeting of the city.
Earlier, Duterte-Carpio bared her proposal requesting President Duterte to exempt Davao City from his declaration of martial law and make the military rule localized in areas where peace and order is unstable.
The President’s declaration that Mindanao still needs to be under martial law is a concern for tourists, businessmen, and international event organizers who plan to hold major activities in the city.
Department of Interior and Local Government 11 regional director Alex Roldan agrees with the proposal since it will benefit the economy of the city.
