A woman was killed after being hit by a 25-ton forklift in Macabalan Port, Cagayan de Oro City on Tuesday.

Shiela Madronero was declared dead on-arrival at the hospital after she was hit by a forklift minutes after alighting from a passenger vessel from Bohol.

According to the investigation of the Port Police, passengers of the vessel where Madronero was onboard were requested to disembark at around 4 a.m. just before heavy equipment in the port were to be allowed to operate in the port premises.

However, Madronero only left an hour later just as the heavy equipment were already making their way into the port.

Police Lt. Nelson Baldamor, chief of 1001st Maritime Police said that the victim was hit before the operator could apply the brakes.

“May narinig siyang sumigaw na may tao sa likuran pero huli na ng apakan niya ang brake, nahagip na ‘yung biktima sa likod na bahagi ng gulong,” he said.

The operator will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
