President Duterte has offered to take full responsibility if his allies Senators Christopher Go and Ronald dela Rosa show wayward behavior.
The President has vouched for the integrity and competence of the two administration senators he endorsed in the last polls during the oath-taking ceremony of new government officials in Malacañang.
“Six years ‘yan so makita ninyo. Sabihin ko sa inyo, [They have six years in office so you will see and I tell you] I take full responsibility if they go wayward,” Duterte said in his remarks.
Duterte initially looked for Go in the crowd and told him to thank the public following his victory in the senatorial elections last May. The new senator, clad in white barong, appeared in front of the audience and bowed before them to show gratitude.
“He’s a graduate of La Salle. Mautak yan. Mabilis magkwenta ‘yan [He’s smart and can compute fast],” Duterte said about his former long-time aide.
Duterte then mentioned Del Rosa, the former chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), saying he is “fundamentally honest.”
He added that Dela Rosa, also former Davao City top cop, never asked for anything in return while he served in the police force.
Go and Dela Rosa are two of the several administration senators endorsed by President Duterte in the last May elections. Go ranked third in final and official poll tally with 20,657,702 votes while Dela Rosa placed 5th with 19,004,225 votes.
