The bill, known as “Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2019”, aims to develop the BFP, ensure public safety by preventing such incidents and in suppressing all kinds of destructive fires.

Go said his bill also seeks to increase fire prevention awareness by the citizenry.

He said his measure will result in an increase in the number of BFP personnel, provide adequate training and buy the equipment needed by firemen.

Go, likewise, stated that under his bill, Fire Protection Services and fire rescue hotlines must be established in each local government unit (LGU) in the country.

The phase-out of old and obsolete major equipment will also be synchronized by providing new equipment in the fire bureau’s inventory, he explained.

Go also wants monthly fire prevention campaigns and information drives implemented in all LGUs and public establishments.

The newcomer to the 24-man Senate visited Dumaguete City Friday to join Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones in the turnover of books and in signifying government’s commitment to build three new buildings at the Dumaguete City High School (DCHS) which was hit by a fire last month.

The senator also facilitated the turnover of a projector with screen, a laptop and 250 monobloc chairs to the school’s principal and also handed out notebooks, pad papers and pens to students.

Speaking in front of the school administration, faculty, and students, Go assured that he wanted to provide fast service as a senator in and out of the office which was why he was visiting every fire-affected area as much as he could.

“Kinausap ko si Pangulong Duterte at kinausap na niya si DepEd Secretary Briones kung mayroon bang pera para mapaayos kaagad. Ngayon mayroon na tayong pera nakuha para dito, hindi lamang 14 classrooms na nasunugan ang itatayo muli, gagawin na itong 32 classrooms. At ngayon na magiging 32 classrooms na ang paaralan, wala nang dahilan para hindi maayos ang inyong pag-aaral, “ the senator said. (I talked to President Duterte who later talked to Secretary Briones on the amount of money to construct these schools, Now with adequate funding, we will not only reconstruct the 14 classrooms burned but will add 19 more classrooms.)
