Four injured in Cavite fire

BACOOR CITY, Cavite – At least four persons were injured while 150 families lost their homes on Friday when a two-hour fire swept through a sitio near Aguinaldo Highway in Silangan, Barangay Talaba VII, this city.

Major Jude D. Sumeg-ang, the firefighters’ ground commander, put property losses at over P1-million.

The fire was called in at 6:20 a.m. and was declared fire out at 8:11 a.m.

Sumeg-ang reported that the fire, which started at a house where a stove was left unattended, reached the fourth alarm at 6:59 a.m.

Four persons sustained minor burns and had difficulty breathing because of smoke inhalation. The names of the victims were not immediately available.

Sumeg-ang said the number of the razed houses and the fire victims have yet to be determined. Investigation continued until Friday afternoon.

The stretch of Talaba has had several fires through the years.

Friday’s fire caused heavy traffic on both lanes of Aguinaldo Highway in Bacoor.

The fire victims were brought to the Talaba VII Covered Court where they will stay for the meantime, Mayor Lani Mercado-Revilla told this reporter.

Personnel from the City Social Welfare and Development and Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Offices were sent to help the victims.
