“Dear Senator Poe… Una, nais po naming liwanagin, once and for all, na hindi totoong mas lumalala ang estado ng MRT-3 ngayon,” DOTr said in a Facebook post.

It added that the recent unloading incident in MRT3 was due to passengers leaning at the train’s door which caused a door failure.

In terms of service interruptions, DOTr claimed that the number of incidents dropped from 31 in the 1st half of 2016, to 12 incidents in the 1st half of 2019.

DOTr added that Sumitomo Corp. and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries formally took over the rehabilitation of MRT-3 last May 1 to restore its entire railway system for 26 months.

On Wednesday, Poe asked the transportation department to explain the recent glitches of MRT-3 amid its supposed efforts to rehabilitate the dilapidated train system.

“The DOTr should explain to the people how it intends to solve this to allay the fears of the passengers,” she said.

The MRT 3 unloaded approximately 850 passengers at the Shaw Boulevard Station in Mandaluyong City due to a door failure Wednesday morning.

DOTr said the public can expect a rehabilitated MRT-3 in June 2021.
