2 mild quakes rattle Siargao Island

BUTUAN CITY - Two mild earthquakes rattled Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs said a magnitude 3.3 magnitude shook Siargao 12:51 a.m. Its epicenter was plotted 33 kilometers northeast of General Luna town, also in Siargao.

The tremor had a depth of 16 km.

The second quake followed at 7:12 a.m. It had a magnitude of 3.5 and the epicenter was placed 36 km northeast of Burgos town, Siargao.

The tremor had a shallow depth of 3 km, Phivolcs said.

The two tremors were tectonic in origin, it said.

No tsunami alert was raised by the state agency.

The Surigao del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council there reported no damage or injury.
