694 day care centers up in Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY – A total of 694 child development centers have been completed in Eastern Visayas.
The completion of the centers was announced by the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development regional field office (DSWD).

Gerry Piñeda, the focal person for the Kalahi-CIDSS program in Eastern Visayas, told Manila Bulletin the total cost of the child development centers (CDCs), formerly known as Day Care Centers, came to P408,820,441.

Piñeda said the centers are being used in implementing the DSWD’s supplemental feeding program.

He said there are 163 centers in Leyte, 18 in Southern Leyte, 12 in Biliran, 225 in Northern Samar and 195 in Western Samar and 81 in Eastern Samar.

Yvonne Serrano-Abonales, DSWD OIC regional director, reported that for the eighth cycle implementation of the feeding program in Eastern Visayas last year, her office has served a total of 69,721 day care children enrolled in 1,967 child development centers, which is below the target 76,327 children.

P125,497,800 were drawn from partner local government units from the fund allocation of P137, 389,000 for last year.
