Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents arrested 35 Chinese nationals allegedly illegally employed as workers at a construction site in Multinational Village in Parañaque City.
BI intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said it was the second biggest operation conducted by the bureau against alien construction workers for illegally working in the country.
The foreigners were caught while working in the construction site.
The first operation happened on September 6 last year when BI agents raided a construction site along Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City and arrested 34 Chinese workers.
Manahan said none of the aliens — all male in their 30s — showed any working permit authorizing them to be gainfully employed in the country.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente hailed the operation’s success, saying it should send a signal to other construction firms not to employ foreign workers.
“These foreigners are robbing our Filipino workers of job opportunities and they should be deported as their presence here is detrimental to our national interest,” the BI chief said.
Morente vowed no letup in the bureau’s drive against illegal foreign workers
Manahan said that based on initial findings, the alien workers are undocumented due to their continued failure to present their passport or other immigration papers.
He said the operation was mounted after intensive surveillance which confirmed the presence of foreign workers at the said construction site.
