ILOILO CITY – Colleges and universities in the Visayas showcased scientific research and developments (R&Ds) in this city.

“If we match the aim of science and the aim of what the people need, then we are all better off,” said Dr. Ricardo Babaran, chancellor of University of the Philippines (UP Visayas) which hosted ViScience 2019: Visayas Science Festival earlier this week with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The festival highlighted R&Ds addressing socio-economic issues along with concerns in agriculture, environment,
health, disasters, and hazard mitigation.
DOST Undersecretary Rowena Guevara emphasized that R&Ds, some of which are funded by DOST, must be utilized by industries or communities to be effective.
As host university, UP Visayas presented R&Ds on Remotely Operated Automatic Bottom Feeder; Algal Paste; Hatchery Production of Green Mussel; and Mussel Sauce.
Aklan State University presented Hybrid Trimaran and Nursery Propagation of Sago.
Visayas State University of Leyte presented Sweet Dessert Red Wine from Mixture of Taro and Black Glutinous Rice and the Macapuno Hybrids.
Capiz State University had R&D Botanical Dewormer while UP Cebu had the Flood Hazard Mapping for Western Visayas.
