MARAWI CITY — Meranaws gathered in different mosques celebrating the end of the holy month of Ramadhan or Eid’l Fit’r on Wednesday praying for the immediate rehabilitation of Marawi City and global peace and happiness.
At about 7 a.m. on Wednesday, they started their prayer following a ‘Khutba’ (sermon) officiated by an Imam (priest).
Prayers were done at the mosque in Areas 2 and 4 combined and Area 6 at Biyaya ng Pagbabago Transitional Site in Sagonsongan to include residents presently residing at Sarimanok Tent with the theme: “The underlying blessings of forgiveness in the holy month of Ramadhan.”
Most of the residents from the 74 barangays of Marawi City gathered and held a ‘sambayang’ (prayer) at the Mindanao State University golf course.
Some were teary-eyed while listening to ‘khutba’ who were touched by the words of Imam, following a tight embrace with each other as a sign of peace after the ceremony.
Immediate reconstruction and rehabilitation of Marawi City which was destroyed two years ago were included in their prayers.
It will be recalled that a few days before Ramadhan, Maute-ISIS members attacked Marawi on May 23, 2017 that resulted in a five-month fight between the military and the terrorists group.
Now that they have already gone through a month of sacrifice a holy Ramadhan, every single IDP would want the rehabilitation of Marawi be done once and for all.
“As usual, we have been praying for the immediate reconstruction and rehabilitation of Marawi,” said Abdul Karim Mindalano and Professor Rashid Baka, MSU main campus Vice president for planning and development and chair of Eid’l Fit’r prayer.
The professor said the rehabilitation should have been started and completed by now.
“I am very hopeful as long as President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is still there, I am trusting on his words that he will make Marawi great again.”
He said he is committed to assist in the rehabilitation and reconstruction as an employee and a resident of Marawi together with the MSU-Marawi administration.
