Tornado affects 19 houses in Negros town

BACOLOD CITY – Strong winds brought by heavy rainfall destroyed three houses and damaged 16 others in San Enrique, Negros Occidental on Sunday.

According to Elenita Amen, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the tornado affected the villages of Batuan, Guintorilan, and Sibucao in the town.

The tornado occurred when it suddenly rained at 3 p.m., she said.

It also caused a power interruption in the said areas when some of the electrical connections got damaged.

The Negros Occidental Central Electric Cooperative (Noceco) immediately fixed the broken lines and restored the power supply.

Affected households are temporarily staying at the houses of their relatives while recovering from the incident.

No injuries were reported.
