Baguio launches campaign vs. violence against women

BAGUIO CITY – A resolution declaring November 25 to December 12 every year as an 18-day campaign period to end violence against women (VAW) was approved by the city council to help in empowering the stakeholders achieve their overall objective of ending violence against women.

Outgoing City Councilor Leandro B. Yangot, Jr., who authored the resolution, stated that despite the presence of various instruments, extensive discrimination against women continued to exist with a total of 15,749 cases of violations of Republic Act (RA) 9262 filed before the Philippine National Police (PNP) from January to June 2017.

The resolution opted that the International Day against Trafficking of Women and Children is celebrated every December 12 to raise awareness among all stakeholders on the prevention and suppression of human trafficking, particularly children and women.
