The protesters were reportedly supporters of outgoing Taguig Rep. Arnel Cerafica, who took to the streets, particularly at the C-5-McKinley intersection, after their bet lost in his reelection bid against Lino Cayetano.

In its official twitter page, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported that there were “more or less 3,000” protesters, who clogged the intersection.

MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago on Thursday night advised all motorists to take alternate routes.

The traffic jam extended all the way to the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) exit on the northbound direction, and Julia Vargas Avenue on the southbound direction.

Suporters of Cerafica were alleging massive cheating transpired in the May 13 election.

Cayetano posted his sentiments on Facebook, and slammed his political opponent for allegedly encouraging his supporters to stage the protest.

"Nine years na Congressman si Arnel Cerafica. Bago noon, naging konsehal ni Freddie Tinga. Alam dapat ng isang pinuno at lingkod bayan, lalo na ng isang mambabatas, ang tama at mali," he said.
